Together, let's rebuild Punjab
Mission Chardi-Kala is a global movement launched by the Government of Punjab to garner support for rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts for the victims of the devastating 2025 Punjab floods the worst that Punjab has seen in 40 years.
The floods have left behind an unprecedented scale of destruction. More than 20 lakh people across 2,300 villages in 23 districts have been affected — families displaced, homes destroyed, and livelihoods swept away. 56 people have lost their lives in these floods. Over 5 lakh acres of crops have been ruined due to which lakhs of farmers have lost their year’s earnings.
Schools, hospitals, clinics, roads and bridges that form the backbone of rural Punjab lie broken or severely damaged. It is estimated that over 8,500 km of roads and over 2,500 bridges and culverts have been damaged. Preliminary estimates suggest that the total damage that Punjab has suffered are a staggering Rs 13,800 crore – a number that is likely to rise in the coming weeks. This is perhaps the worst natural disaster in Punjab since independence.
Just as “Chardi Kala” signifies the eternal Sikh spirit of strength and optimism, especially in the face of adversity, Mission Chardi Kala is a call to action for all Indians, especially Punjabis, globally to rise together as one family in the time of Punjab’s greatest adversity.
